February's DVLA auction was an online event that ran from Wednesday 11th February to Tuesday 17th February 2026.

February's Top 5
This month's rankings were topped by ATL 4S ("Atlas") which sold for £50,892 - possibly a reference to the sky-supporting Titan of Greek mythology, but maybe a company name or an allusion to something of prodigious size.
In second place, another cryptic choice. Whatever the reason for the purchaser paying £30,992 for 150 OOO, the plate has undeniable visual impact. The same may be said of 7777 O (£28,459) in third place. Repetition of characters is a popular number plate motif and, as we have seen in many auctions, "O" registrations are great sellers.
Brevity is one positive feature of fourth place holder 143 E (£25,022), but the significance of the characters to the buyer remains unknown to us. Completing February's top five was VAR 4N ("Varan"), which sold for £24,825. Possibly chosen for Varan, the Japanese movie monster, but more likely for the name Varan, which is of Indian origin.
Words
Amongst the many word registrations this month were S11 OOT ("Shoot") at £23,910, 2 HOW ("Show") at £22,167, 804 T ("Boat") at £19,386, ENG 715H ("English") at £14,924 and 70 GUN which sold for £14,306.
The last is an example of a topic that could previously have seen the combination withheld from issue due to its reference to weapons. C411 MEE (Call me) at £14,084 would make a great promotional plate if the vehicle also displayed the number to call. OLD 130Y ("Old boy") at £12,440 shows how 13 can be used as a substitute for the better B (the number 3 is another option). A111 OUT ("All out"), which sold for £11,525, could be a cricket-related choice, although it might also suit a particularly militant trade union member!
Names
We saw the name/word "Atlas" earlier, heading the top five sellers. Other personal or place name combinations included 414 YNA ("Alayna") at £22,340, TR75 TAN ("Tristan/Trystan") at £19,745 and PK75 TAN ("Pakistan") at £16,284.
ALF 81E ("Alfie") for £12,687 is a good example of an imperfect name spelling that is still visually effective. As we have seen many times, willingness to compromise on the accuracy of a spelling can give access to many more options when searching for a personal registration. PA25 ONS ("Parsons") at £8,744, on the other hand, was quite a bargain for a "perfect" spelling.
Cars
Car plates achieved mostly modest prices this month, but there was a fair selection on offer. A80 BMW was sold for just £1,205, but it would make a great plate for a car fanatic who owns a BMW. Other Audi and BMW combinations amongst the lots were AUD 177S (£2,490), B340 BMW (£871), H325 BMW (£1,946) and J101 BMW (£587).
Porsche owners, especially 911 fans, are always well catered for, and this month was no exception, with 911 DJM (£9,498), 911 RJS (£5,148), 911 MCN (£5,073), PCC 911 (£4,418) and 911 MDD (£3,491) being just a few of many on offer.
Aesthetic
We've already mentioned the appeal of repeated or similar characters on number plates. In many cases there is no intended meaning, such as a name or word, but the visual effect of such plates can be striking. Many of them also make the age of a car less obvious. In February's auction, S700 OOO (£7,657) may contain no apparent significance or message, but it is still a real eye-catcher. The same is true of OO15 OOO (£5,531).

February's DVLA online auction comprised 2,000 lots, 1,976 of which were sold and 24 unsold. Purchasers spent a total of £6,371,637.
