Auction listings FAQs

A "Buy Now" tag means you can buy that registration straight away at the price shown, without waiting for the auction to end or placing a bid. It's shown alongside the current listed price. Once a listing sells this way, it's removed from the live auction immediately.

"Coming Soon" means a registration has been listed but hasn't started its auction yet. New listings appear in Coming Soon for 5 days before bidding opens, giving buyers time to find and watch a plate before the clock starts. Once that period ends, the auction runs live for 7 days.

Once a listing leaves Coming Soon, its auction runs for 7 days. Combined with the 5-day Coming Soon period beforehand, a registration can be visible on the site for up to 12 days before bidding closes. Watching a plate means you'll get a reminder email as its auction deadline approaches.

Yes. Open the filters above the listings to narrow them by price range (for example up to £500, £1,000 or £5,000) or plate type (Dateless, Prefix, Suffix or Current Style), and use the Live, Buy Now, Coming Soon and Sold buttons to switch between listing statuses. You can also sort by ending soonest, newest listings, price or letters A to Z.

The number plate auction runs online 24/7. Sign in to your Regtransfers account, find a registration, and place a bid. You'll need valid documents for the vehicle the registration will go on before you bid. If you win, you pay your bid plus the £80 transfer fee, and VAT if applicable, with no buyer's premium. Regtransfers then handles the DVLA transfer paperwork for you.

How our number plate auction works

Our number plate auction works much like other auction sites. We differ slightly in that buying a registration requires the completion and filing of DVLA paperwork and we handle all that for you.

Listing a registration

Selling a number plate in our auction is perfect for simplifying an otherwise complicated transfer procedure. It is quick and simple and it costs as little as £10 plus VAT.

  1. Sign in to your Regtransfers account or sign up for one
  2. Request a free valuation on the number plate you would like to list
  3. Once we have valued your number plate, click on the 'List in auction' button
  4. Set a starting price, reserve and any options you'd like
  5. Once you list your number plate it will appear in our 'Coming Soon' section for 5 days. After 5 days have passed the auction will then start and will last for 7 days
  6. When your registration is won, we will send you an email to confirm this
  7. Upload the documents requested by email into your account
  8. Receive your money via Payit by NatWest

Bidding on a registration

Bidders have an excellent opportunity to purchase great registrations that rarely come to market. The bidding process is very simple to follow and easy to understand.

  1. Sign in to your Regtransfers account or sign up for one
  2. Find the registration that catches your eye
  3. Make your bid - see our tips below
  4. Track progress in your account
  5. When you win, we will send you an email and take payment: the full amount for winning bids of £1,000 or less, or a deposit above that
  6. If a deposit was taken, pay the balance in 7 days, and order your acrylics
  7. Upload any documents requested by email into your account
  8. Receive your new documents
