Goldfinger's number plate for sale

Bookmark and Share

The number plate used on the car driven by arch-villain Goldfinger in the iconic 60s movie, is to be auctioned by Bonhams of London. The significance of the distinctive AU 1 in the James Bond film title is in the letters 'AU', which are also the chemical symbol of gold.

Interestingly, the registration, AU 1, was also the first to be issued in Nottingham, back in 1903. Some 105 years later, this now doubly-historic plate is likely to reach over £80,000 when it is offered as part of the annual motoring sale at Olympia, West London.

More Bond memorabilia will feature at the event, in the shape of the Lotus from The Spy Who Loved Me. Prospective purchasers should be looking in the region of £120,000.
