Help with buying a number plate

Buying your very own personalised registration is as easy as 1,2,3. Just follow the steps below and we’ll take care of everything for you.

Step 1

Use one of our searches to find a number plate that suits you. You can enter your initials, name or any text you like into our general search box in the right hand column of this page, or try our other searches.

Step 2

When you have found the number you would like to purchase, make sure that it can be transferred to your vehicle. The basic rule is that you may not transfer a number plate to any vehicle if the vehicle itself is older than the year indicated by the indicator numbers or letter on the plate. For example, a car that originally bore a ‘D’ year prefix plate may not display a ‘W’ prefix plate as that would falsely make the vehicle appear younger than it is.

NB: If you do not have a vehicle, you may still purchase your registration and retain it on a special certificate until you are ready to transfer it to a car, motorcycle or whatever. If this applies to you please call us and we’ll explain. It’s really very straight-forward.

Step 3

Just click the “Buy Now” button on the search results page to purchase online or call to speak to one of our friendly, professional advisors. When making your purchase, don’t forget to choose the style of acrylic number plates you would prefer. These are the actual plastic plates that fit on your car to display your personal registration. If you purchase online you will see a preview tool that allows you to see the various styles and to choose. If you purchase from one of our advisors you will be given details of the various plate style options at that time.

There! With your purchase complete, just sit back and await prompt delivery of your paperwork and your personal number plates.

Help with selling a number plate.

Selling your registration through Regtransfers is easy. We handle the whole process for you, from valuation to transfer of the registration to its new owner.

The first step is to get a free valuation for your registration mark. Just follow one of the free valuation links on this page, or go to 'Sell a Number Plate' in our main navigation menu.

When you have provided the details we ask for, just click the 'Submit' button to send your valuation request. Please do ensure that you enter your correct email address as, if you decide you do want to sell, you will need to follow a link in an email message we will send to you.

Shortly after sending your request you will receive a message acknowledging receipt of your enquiry; then, usually within 24 hours, you will receive a carefully considered expert valuation of your registration number. Please note that at weekends and during busy periods it may take us a little longer to send your valuation, but we will process it as quickly as we can.

When you have received and considered your valuation, you may decide that you would like to go ahead and sell your number. In this case you will need to go online and click the link in the valuation email that we sent to you. This will take you to a confirmation page where we ask you to ensure that your details are correct. This page also contains a box which you must tick to give us permission to advertise your registration mark for sale.

Once you have completed the simple steps described above, you can leave it to us to move things along. We will advertise your registration number in the media to which we think it is best suited, in order to maximise the chances of attracting offers from potential purchasers.

If we should successfully sell your number we will inform you immediately and explain the final few things that need to be done (we will probably ask you to pop a couple of documents in the post). Don't worry, our advisors will guide you to make sure that everything is clear.

We will also inform you of offers we may receive that may be below your asking price. Naturally, the decision whether or not to sell at a lower price is yours, so we do not reject offers without consulting you.
