PEN 15 turns heads wherever it goes. It usually raises a smile, and often has passers-by doing double takes. We have honestly never known a car registration that gets such an immediate reaction… from almost everyone!
As we always point out, the registration PEN 15 does not depict a word. It is an alphanumeric character combination that has occurred in a sequence of official vehicle identification marks, and which has been issued by the DVLA. The plate is displayed in the officially prescribed, legal format. Any meaning, or resemblance to any word or name is, therefore, in the eye of the beholder. It’s a bit like seeing castles and rabbits in clouds: they are really only there in the viewer’s imagination.
Nevertheless, as Who Wants to be a Millionaire quizmaster and host Chris Tarrant discovered, there is just something about PEN 15 that catches the attention.
We interviewed Chris recently when we delivered his new CHU 8B registration (Chris is a keen chub fisherman) and, as you can see from the photo, he was quite surprised to find himself standing beside our big PEN 15.
