The first TVR car was built by Trevor Wilkinson in 1949, just two years after founding his own company, Trevcar Motors of Blackpool. The name TVR was taken from his own name of TreVoR. Over the years most models have relied on engines supplied by well-known manufacturers such as Coventry Climax, Ford, MG and Rover, but surprisingly the very first car had a Ford 100E engine and was build on a multi-tubular body – not quite what you might have expected. TVR now produce their own engine know as the AJP8.
It wasn’t until 1958, when the Grantura was built using an in-house glass reinforced plastic body, did the cars start to take on the basic shape that we all recognise today. There have been many models built since like the Vixen, Taimar, Griffith, Chimaera
Tuscan and more recently the Sagaris.
