Felix was first conceived as a curious and mischievous little cat by New Jersey cartoonist Otto Messmer in the late 1890s. He soon became hugely popular and became what is considered the first true cartoon movie star, appearing in “Feline Follies” in the early 1900s. The character was also used as and ‘actor’ when RCA first began experimental television transmissions in 1928. Felix the Cat’s popularity has become international these days and is widely used to promote any number of products and events, as well as appearing in his very own cartoons and comics.
