Tofu Number Plates in Questionable Taste?

A lady in the US state of Colorado recently found herself in hot water due to her controversial private number plates. Authorities took exception to her ILVTOFU car registration, claiming that it could offend certain onlookers who might read it as a reference to more... personal interests. The lady owner, Ms Kelly Coffman-Lee, insisted that the "I love tofu" message was simply a reflection of her family's enthusiasm for the high-protein bean curd product.

The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles wasn't awfully sympathetic, and seemed reluctant to make an exception in the face of Ms Coffman-Lee's protestations of innocence. The DMV continues to insist that "FU" plates are not permitted because of the strong possibility of inappropriate inference.

The story achieved such infamous high profile that it was reproduced on the famous liberal news and comment website The Huffington Post. We at Regtransfers do rather wonder if people don't read far too much into these things.

Nigerian Police Cross Over Naughty Number Plates Misuse

Bank managers in Nigeria have been told off by a senior police officer for the rather cheeky misappropriation of official police number plates. The "SPY" plates in question are issued for use on police vehicles that are usually used for escort duties. Impatient bank officials have been caught removing the plates from their registered bearer vehicles and mounting them on their own cars in order to avoid inconvenient security checks.

As in the UK, the law in Nigeria takes a dim view of any car displaying a number plate other than that with which it has been officially issued.

Assistant Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar said, "Anyone caught, no matter his position in the society, will be made to face the wrath of the law".

So there. Cheeky bankers.
