UK Number Plates Price Record Broken Yet Again...

The BBC reports that the car registration F 1 recently sold for £500,000 - however, Regtransfers.co.uk has been informed by the purchaser's representative that the price paid was, in fact, £440,625. Even without the BBC's exaggeration, we have a new record for the highest price ever paid for a UK personal car registration.

Hot on the heels of the new UK price record comes another of the famous Abu Dhabi registrations sales run by Emirates Auction. Regular readers of Regwise and the Regtransfers blog will recall that the current world record price was paid for a registration consisting of just the number 5, which sold for £3.5 million.

The forthcoming auction, which is scheduled to take place on February 16th 2008, will include a registration consisting of just the number 1. It is not surprising that expectations are high for a new world record price, and the organisers have invited officials from Guinness World Records to attend. After the last sale, Guinness issued a certificate confirming the status of 5 as the world's most expensive car registration. It looks very much as if they will be issuing another certificate next month.
