Controversial Registrations Pulled from Sale

Once again the issue of number plate censorship has been in the news.

DVLA withdrew two number plates from an auction in Worcestershire after a complaint from the lesbian, gay and bisexual rights charity Stonewall. Stonewall (which played a major part in campaigns which successfully achieved the repeal of Section 28 of the Local Government Act (2003), the recognition of anti-gay hate crimes, through the Criminal Justice Act 2003 and the introduction of the Civil Partnership Act 2004 giving gay and lesbian couples an equivalent to civil marriage) objected to the sale of F4 GOT and D1 KES, both of which bear passing resemblance to pejorative or abusive slang terms for gay and lesbian people.

Boxer's Car Loses by a Knockout

Welsh boxing champion Joe Calzaghe was very annoyed recently by an unfair bout. His Audi RS4 suffered damage estimated at £8,000 when a heavyweight council-owned digger hit it below the belt.

London-born Calzaghe is the proud owner of BOX 3R, the ultimate "boxer" registration. A man who displays a plate like that on a £20,000 vehicle obviously cares a great deal about his car. One suspects that the driver of the digger experienced more than a little discomfort when he realised whose car he had hit.
