Ronaldo Gets His Perfect Match!

Sportsmen and women are still amongst the most ardent of private number plates enthusiasts. Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly splashed out on the personal registration number CR 7. Ronaldo, it seems, is developing a real preoccupation with the combination of his initials and his Man Utd shirt number. Whatever talismanic appeal CR 7 might hold for him, he evidently considers it important enough to justify spending £150,000 on the plate.

Once again, we see the extraordinary significance a personal number plate can have for its owner, and the lengths people will go to in order to acquire their perfect number. One final bit of perspective: at £150,000, CR 7 is more valuable than the £140,000 Bentley car upon which it will be displayed!

The World of Personal Number Plates

The last couple of issues of Regtransfers.co.uk: The World of Personal Number Plates have seen us speaking with prominent business people and entrepreneurs. The extent to which these high-fliers have embraced private registrations, both on a personal level and as a business and branding tool, has taken us rather by surprise. We knew that many famous business people own private plates – Sir Alan Sugar, David Gold, Duncan Bannatyne, Theo Paphitis etc – but the number of these busy people who have expressed an interest in being interviewed for the magazine is a revelation nonetheless.

Of course, some of our readers may be a little more interested in celebrities from the worlds of entertainment and sport, so in the next issue of our magazine we will be speaking to legendary cricket all-rounder Sir Ian Botham, OBE. Botham has been affectionately known by a couple of nicknames over the years: one of them was "Guy the Gorilla". If you can remember his other nickname, then you will have a clue to the number he displays on his personal number plates
The Ian Botham issue is scheduled for publication in October.
