Olympics
Few people can have failed to notice the interest surrounding the imminent Olympic Games in China. You will probably also be aware that we at Regtransfers like to amuse ourselves by selecting themed number plates to mark special occasions and current events. Well, the Beijing Games is no exception, and we have tried to come up with a good selection.
The Chinese are great fans of private number plates. Traditionally certain numbers are seen as having connotations regarding luck and fortune. Special interest always surrounds plates bearing the number 8, which is linked with prosperity, while the number 9 with its association with longevity is also popular. Registrations sales in places like Hong Kong have seen some very spectacular prices achieved.
For the athletically inclined amongst you, how about a private number plate that reflects your preferred sport? UK BOX 33R Amir Khan enjoyed some success in the 2004 games. Hopefully, another British ATH 137E will achieve GLO 12Y this time. With a bit of luck, we could be on TAR 63T to win gold with a TOP 734M.

Great Prices Paid in US Auction
US personalised license plates - or "vanity plates" as they are most often called in America - are still selling for very good prices. At a sale in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, plate number 1 commanded $147,000. This far exceeded previous auction prices for low-numbered Cape & Islands license plates. Runner up in the high-price rankings was the number 4 which achieved a bid of $35,500 while the third place number 8 made $20,500.
Oddly, the winning bidder for the very, very recognisable number 1 plate wished to remain anonymous. We don't fancy his chances of maintaining that status if he drives around with that registration number on his car!
Funds raised by the auction will go to a number of non-profit organizations including the Cape Cod Baseball League and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce.
