Sale of Manx MN 1 Number Plate

At the beginning of February, an Isle of Man number plate, MN 1, sold for £100,000 at an auction. The sale of motor car memorabilia took place at the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club in Santon, Isle of Man.

Bidders and organisers alike seemed taken aback by the price achieved. There had been speculation before the auction that the recent trend for high sums achieved by mainland UK registration sales could be reflected here to some extent, but in the event £100,000 was more than had been expected.

The Manx car registration, formerly owned by the late John Moore was bought by an unnamed bidder. MN 1 is especially notable as the first Manx car registration issued, in 1906, when it went onto a vehicle owned by Mr George Drinkwater of Braddan, IoM.

Developments at Numberplates.com

Regtransfers.co.uk has been investing a great deal of resources in the development of its sister site, the free personal registrations club, Numberplates.com.

In 2008 the club website underwent something of a facelift. The colour scheme was brightened up, and the site made easier to navigate. More recently a decision was made to turn Numberplates.com into the most comprehensive number plates and car registrations resource on the Internet.

One of the features that has been improved and expanded is the number plates photo gallery. The gallery now features much larger images, making them clearer to view. We have also added a number of interactive features aimed at providing you with details of the registrations that appear in the photographs. With the new gallery you can learn about the date and location of the number's original issue, what kind of car currently displays the plate, whether or not the plate is for sale, and more.

There are currently over 650 photographs in the Numberplates.com gallery, most of which have been sent in by club members and website visitors. We are constantly adding more, and we'd love to see your number plate photographs!

If you have, or can take, pictures of unusual, rare or amusing number plates and the cars that bear them, we would be very grateful if you would send them to us for the gallery.

Please send your photos to pr@numberplates.com.
