Back in the early nineties, Lee's dad, David, purchased a 1950’s Royal Enfield 250cc Crusader Sports motorcycle in need of restoration, with the registration YOH 816.

Over a number of years, he restored the bike to ‘as new’ condition. In 1998, fancying a change, he ordered a new Lotus Elise and decided to transfer the plate to it. The bike was assigned a new non-transferable number and later sold.

David owned the azure blue Elise for about two years before deciding to sell it. The gentleman who bought the car asked David if he would he be willing to leave the plate on the car as part of the sale. As he was happy with the deal, David agreed, and YOH 816 moved on to pastures new with the Lotus Elise. Sadly, after a long battle with cancer David passed away in August 2010.

In January this year, purely by chance, Lee, from Hertfordshire, received a text from a friend who had seen an interesting number plate whilst driving in London. This prompted Lee to have a look at number plates on the internet. “After browsing the Regtransfers site for a while,” he says, “guess what popped up? Yes, YOH 816!

“When I saw it I put my hand to my mouth in utter shock and said to my wife, Jo, ‘You won’t believe what I’ve just found’. She remembered the plate and the Lotus.

“I just had to have YOH 816 back,” insisted Lee. “My brother, Ian, and I agreed that it must be more than coincidence and decided to make an offer for the plate.

“I phoned Bruno at Regtransfers who confirmed that it was still for sale. After some negotiation, the registration was bought and now resides on my wife’s Mitsubishi Colt as a loving memory of our dad.”
