Mark Gibson’s interest in personal number plates began in the early 1990’s when a work colleague brought in Ruby Speechley’s book Fanatical About Number Plates.
“I spent a lot of time looking at all the famous people and their personal number plates when I should have been working,” he admits.
Shortly afterwards, Mark registered his interest in a number of cherished plates with Regtransfers. Soon, his dream number plate came up.
“GIB 51 was perfect for me,” says Mark, “as Gibsy is my wife’s nickname for me and also could be seen as ‘GIBS 1’. Being a tight fisted Accountant, it took all my wife’s powers of persuasion to convince me to buy it, but I’m glad she did as it’s given me so much pleasure over the years.
“It first got applied to my Rover 800 Sterling and then on to a Jaguar XJ 3.2 sport before I suffered my mid life crisis and ditched the family cars for two-seater sports cars. Since then it has been seen on a BMW Z3, two Honda S2000’s and now finally onto my BMW Z4.”
In September 2010 Marks’ wife, Ruth, took delivery of a new Audi A3 1.6 TSFI in the same colour as Mark’s Z4. “Now we have matching cars,” she said, “wouldn’t it be fantastic if we had matching number plates as well?” Once again Regtransfers were summoned with a number of options and managed to obtain GIB 551. “Ruth had no idea I had managed to get it and it made a wonderful present last Christmas.
