Twenty five times the price I bought the plates for

My love affair with personalised plates began about twenty years ago. The first plate I bought was BKH 1T (BK HIT). I had barely fixed the plates to my car when I received an offer at a significant premium to sell them. Bill Kenright, the theatre impresario, had just had his first hit in the West End with the musical Blood Brothers and was also celebrating a milestone birthday. After a little upward negotiating, Bill bought the plate and, I believe, still has the number to this day.
From the profits, we bought my next registration, 6 EBK (Sexy BK).
I know it’s a stretch, but my wife thought it was appropriate!
I have two other vehicles with personalised plates. On my Dodge Viper I have M7 ASP (My asp). I get a lot of comments about the link between the plates and the car model, which proves people do look at number plates.
On our Smart car we have A11 BLK. At the time of purchase I hadn’t realised the Kiwi rugby connection, but I get at least one offer each year from a New Zealander or All Blacks rugby supporter. The last offer I turned down was twenty five times the price I bought the plates for.
My latest purchase from Regtransfers was a number plate I had wanted for many years. The goal was either 1 BLK or BLK 1 and, when you showed 1 BLK in your lists, I thought it was about time I made the investment.
The plates are now on my Ferrari 612 and I think will be with us for many years to come.
