Scott Drivers Favour Personalised Plates

A recent survey carried out by leading insurers Elephant.co.uk has revealed that Scottish drivers purchase more personalised number plates per head that anyone else in the United Kingdom. Over 14% of Scottish drivers have personalised number plates, the survey has revealed. This is a relatively high rate compared to England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Brian Martins managing director of elephant.co.uk had this to say: "Personalised number plates have definitely become more popular since the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency made them easier to locate and buy."

Eight of the twenty personal plates hotspot areas were in Scotland, a clear sign that the Scots love their personalised number plates.

Fintry, Killearn and Strathblane are just three of these hotspots where the residents have quite a fixation on personalised plates. The survey also revealed that luxury and sport car owner with such vehicles as Ferraris and Porsches are very popular buyers at the DVLA auctions. One particularly common registration plate among Porsche owners is the sequence ‘911’.

With such high rates of personalised number plates in Scotland it is not surprise that the DVLA makes a huge proportion of its profits in the northern region. The DVLA could be criticised of missing such a huge tap for funds by not holding a single auction in Scotland this year. None the less it is expected that Scottish drivers will continue along their path and maintain their position on the top of the leader board for personalised plates and buy plenty more in the coming twelve months.
