Norwegians To Embrace World Of Private Plates

Despite being labelled an "ego-trip" by Norway's Transport Minister, Liv Signe Navarsete, personalised number plates will soon be gracing the cars of many a Norwegian as the country announces its plan to introduce private registrations.

Private number plates have been available in other countries for decades and, although some Norwegians are against them, most are eager to purchase them. Therefore, these decorative plates will soon be made available to drivers, despite the Transport Minister's prior scepticism. Last year, she spoke to news programmes, NTB, and said: "Fancy plates are just vanity."

It has since been realised that personalised registrations, or "vanity license plates", would help to raise much-needed revenues for the country. As a result of this, Ms. Navarsete has since changed her mind about the fancy registrations.

There are many highway projects that need to be commenced. Drivers buying number plates, which should be introduced next year, will generate money for this. It is now thought that the introduction of these plates is very positive.

It is believed that motorists will be required to pay the modest sum of 300 NOK, which is just under £28, for a personalised plate. Drivers will be able to use their imaginations to create their own plates. However, offensive or crude words will not be issued.
