Lady In North Carolina Has The Number Plates Bug

American vanity plates have hit the news as a steadily increasing number of motorists choose to present a message with personalised number plates. In North Carolina, a particularly interesting set of number plates have been purchased by enthusiast, Sherry Evans. As a result, she has attracted the attention of the media.

Ms. Evans reveals that she has always had an interest in word games. Therefore, personalised number plates have always appealed to her. Her Volkswagen Bug currently sports the plate ZPADDODA, while her latest purchase is INMYLMNT ('in my element') for her Honda Element.

Ms. Evans is particularly proud of the first of these plates as it is often puzzling to other road users. Ms. Evans explained the word game, revealing that ZPADDODA stands for 'Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah'. For Sherry, this reflects the personality of her VW Bug perfectly. She said, "It's a puzzle for people to solve in traffic."

In North Carolina, the private number plates (or 'vanity plates') epidemic is growing. There are over 260,000 personalised plates presently gracing the state's roads. This said, North Carolina does not have the most personalised plates. The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators teamed up with author, Stefan Lonce to carry out a nationwide survey and found that citizens of Virginia own the greatest number of plates, with 1,065,217, while North Carolina came 16th. This shows how popular private plates have become in the USA.

Ms. Evans has a list of other possible private registrations, ready for when she purchases new vehicles.
