US drivers to choose new plate designs

Nature lovers in Minnesota, USA are being given the opportunity to choose the designs for a special series of wild-life number plates.
The licensing authority already has two themed plates to choose from - one featuring deer and one a loon. Motorists displaying them make a minimum $30 per year donation towards research and education programs.
According to Commissioner Mark Holsten from the Department of Natural Resources, more than 100,000 drivers have bought the two existing plates.
Now a further four new designs will be chosen from eight contenders: a ladyslipper, a northern Minnesota fishing scene, a white-tailed buck, a pheasant in flight, a black-capped chickadee, a walleye, a pair of loons and a wood duck.
Voting takes place online and the winning designs will be announced next week.
