Appeal Of Number Plates Continues
An upcoming number plates auction, which is to take place in November by DVLA Personalised Registrations, is expected to produce more great sales of personalised number plates. This will add to the impressive run of private registrations already sold in 2008.
Number plates from all categories of registrations will appear at the auction, but particular emphasis is being placed on those that relate to particular models of car. MG drivers will be fighting over plates such as 78 MG, while competition will be fierce for registrations such as BMW 1A, 36 JAG, and XJR 1A (which relates to Jaguar's XJR models).
Other car-related registrations available are EVO 1S, which may appeal to a Mitsubishi Evo driver and D47 SUN, which has a reserve value of just £350.
Although car-related plates seem to be the DVLA's focus for the auction, the personal number plate expected to sell for the highest sum is the prestigious 1 RH. This plate has a reserve value of £8000.
If estimates are accurate, the auction could produce some more record-breaking sales. So far this year, sales figures for private number plates have soared, despite the credit crisis. In September, S 1 was sold for just over £400k, while 6 B sold for £130,000 just days later. The highest sum paid for a personalised plate is still £440,625, which was paid for F 1, sold in February 2008.
