Dragon Set to Make a Killing in Number Plate Sale

TV 'Dragon', Duncan Bannatyne is reported to be selling his collection of number plates.

The Scottish entrepreneur has a number great plates up for offer, including his own initial plate, 52 DB. Another number close to his heart is the splendid F1 TSO, a clear reference to his nationwide namesake chain of fitness clubs.

Duncan, who rose to prominence as part of the team of judges on the BBC TV show Dragons' Den, clearly knows a good investment and a good marketing ploy when he sees it. Also part of the current Bannatyne stable are the highly distinctive numbers G 74, 111 JO, 1 LGO, 5 EBS, 2 BHM, 6 AVS, and 50 PAM.

You can read all about the Bannatyne empire and the significances of these registrations in a comprehensive article, which was specially commissioned for our magazine The World of Personal Number Plates.

It may, at first glance, seem a little odd that a highly successful individual should want to part with items which are often viewed as trophies marking fiscal achievements. But Duncan is a realist and a businessman and simply explains: "Trading numberplates is all part of the business empire." Conclusive evidence, if any were needed, of the significant place which vehicle registrations now take in the modern investment portfolio.
