Could Ronaldo be looking for a new plate?

Clive Roberts may well be in line for a premier offer on his number plate. The caravan park owner from mid-Wales has the registration CR 9.

Now, you may recall from our earlier story that Premier League footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo was reported - incorrectly, as it transpires - to have purchased the number CR 7 - reflecting his current position in the Manchester United FC line-up.

Well, it seems that rumours are abounding that the Portuguese star is set to make a move to Real Madrid, but that his coveted number is already taken by Raul Gonzalez. The current Number 9, Javier Saviola, is, however, expected to move on shortly - leaving an opening for the ambitious Ronaldo.

The story is given some credence by the fact that the player's agent, Jorge Mendes has, apparently, recently registered 'CR9' as a trademark - alongside 'CR7' which was copyrighted earlier this year to be used on merchandise and as the name of a restaurant and bar in Portugal.

Getting back to Mr Rowlands and his CR 9 plate: Whatever moves are afoot, the current owner adamantly refuses to contemplate an exchange. "I have had my number plate for more than 20 years and it is not for sale," says Clive, and adds; "With the goals he is scoring for Manchester United I doubt he is going leave to go anywhere."

Time will tell if this speculation amounts to anything, of course, but there is little doubt that Clive Rowlands could well be sitting on a small fortune.
