Naughty Numbers Missed by Aussie Censors

Flag of Australia

Cheeky motorists in Australia are taking advantage of some momentary lapses of concentration by the censors in Victoria. The transport authority has missed plates like FU2 - which is now set to make a small fortune for Melbourne businessman, Alan Lane.

Alan reckons someone will pay $10,000 for the privilege of metaphorically shoving the message in the faces of police and traffic wardens.

Over the years, the Aussie authorities have let slip some blinding faux pas by unwittingly issuing such classics as GONADS and HOOTRZ, SMUT69 and FNMEAN. Although, to their credit, they did mange to spot GSTAPO, LEGLIS, ORGASM and MURDA before they could be launched into the system.

The agency's opposite numbers in the UK, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), are not without egg on their faces, however, after some staggering oversights. Many of which are currently in the possession Regtransfers.co.uk, the country's leading personal number plates specialists.

Combinations such as ORG 45M, FU I, PEN I5, R4 NDY, NUT 5 and FCK I, have all been legitimately issued to the owners of new vehicles since the system started at the beginning of the last century.

Back down under, Mr Lane think it's all "a bit of fun". But he accepts that there are "a lot of old fuddy-duddies out there who will take offence at anything."
