Two Top Plates to Fight For Attention at Forthcoming Auction

Auction fever is upon us once again as the DVLA prepares for the latest in its series of regular sales of cherished registrations.
February 3rd, 4th and 5th of February are the dates of the event to be held at Wychwood Park, Weston, near Crewe, Cheshire. The venue is a contemporary style hotel and conference centre - a departure from the more traditional stately homes which have played host to previous auctions.
So , what's on offer this time? Well, all eyes are on a trio of numbers up for grabs on the closing day of Friday 5th June. 10 XJY commands a respectable reserve of £4500, whilst higher up the scale sits the quirky 3 O waiting for bids above a modest £8000 starting price.
Interested parties would be wise to take note of the £142,248.75 total cost raised by it's numerical sibling, 2 O at the Ardencote Manor sale in Warwickshire just a couple of months ago.
Top of the bill, on the basis of a lowest acceptable offer of £10,000, is 7 T. The 'T' registrations date back to January 1904 when they was originally issued by the Devonshire County Council. This is a piece of history just waiting to adorn the vehicle of the most discerning of enthusiasts.
If previous results are anything to go by - and evidence suggests that it may well be a highly accurate indicator - the nearest comparison would be the £94k total price tag attached to 3 S at the beginning of the year.
Not being a 'number one', 7 T may not have the kudos of record-breaking plates like F 1 and S 1, which are the top-selling UK registrations, both attracting over £400k, but the cute 'Seventy' of it's acronym may be a crucial factor in the race.
Elsewhere in the catalogue are thousands of great plates with guide prices of as little as £300. For example, the splendid F445 TER ('FASTER') would be expected to attract a far larger sum in the private market. Astute investors will be well aware of its potential commercial value and the final bidding is sure to reflect a degree of venture capitalism.
As always, Regtransfers will be present at Wychwood Park to report on events as they happen and bring you the full details of all the sale result. So, please watch this space.
