A Successful Final Day At DVLA's Number Plates Auction
The recent DVLA auction, which concluded last Friday, has produced some impressive number plates sales. The auction, which was held at the Haycock Hotel, Wansford, Cambridgeshire, already had a successful first two days, with many car registrations proving to be popular. The plate that generated the most competition in the first two days was the prestigious '6 B', which finally sold for just under £130,000.
There was much anticipation and wonder over the plate 'THE 571G', which finally went under the hammer on Friday afternoon. Due to its connection with the mysterious Top Gear driving enigma, The Stig, the unique registration produced much competition.
Damian Lawson, Marketing Manager for DVLA Personalised Registrations, said: "We had more than a dozen people chasing "THE 571G" registration - and there we were, thinking there was only one Stig. Now we're not so sure!"The plate sold for a total of £10,690, which is particularly impressive as it had a reserve value of just £400. The eventual buyer of the plate, Top Gear fan, Rick Fusari, plans to display the registration on one of his two Ferraris but is yet to decide which one!
Other plates sold were SYR 1A (£25,974), NJM 4 (£14,480), MRA 511F (£12,838), LOV 11T (£11,196), SHR 3D (£10,817) and HAD 1T (£6,143).
The auction was clearly a success, showing that prestigious number plates continue to sell, despite the country's recent economy problems.
