2 O confounds the pessimists

Registration 2 O comes up for auction at Ardencote Manor

Warwickshire appeared to have moved to a different country - one seemingly unaffected by the pervading economic doom and gloom - as yet another classic number plate sold for a significant sum.

The three-day Ardencote Manor auction, which started on Wednesday has already produced a spectacular result with the sale of the registration 1 D for a remarkable gross figure of £352,411.25.

This makes the highly desirable mark the second most expensive in the country after F 1, the current record-holder at £440,625.

Now, 2 0 - a number plate some may have viewed as somewhat of an outsider - has come up trumps with a sensational price tag of £142,248.75 (including associated charges).

The figure that has changed hands puts 2 O at a very respectable 13th place in the plate league, only three spots behind it's 'sister' 1 O, which commanded £210,242 in January this year.

It is perhaps significant that the perceived value of 2 O appears to have exceeded some pundits' expectations simply due to the the sale and, therefore, unavailability of its sibling.

The news bodes well for the chances of even more surprises when more releases from the 'O' series (3 O to 6 O inc) are paraded one by one at the forthcoming events in this year's DVLA auction season.
