Mr Waltham with his grandson and their personal number plates

Image of Mr Waltham's original letter about his number plates. Text appears below.

Dear Sir,

Please find enclosed two for one, my new number plate 6768 KW which as you can see from the photo, has myself Keith Waltham and my grandson, Kieron Waltham, who will take over my number plate once I have finished with it.

Thus making it a two for one special for me.

Yours Sincerely,

Mr K. Waltham

Mr Waltham's letter illustrates yet another aspect of personal number plates that might not be immediately obvious: they can be passed on to future generations. It is by no means uncommon for children to have the same initials as their parents or grandparents, and a good number plate may well be even more valuable in years to come than it is now. Just think, your cherished car registration may be more than a way of affirming your identity, and it may be more than an investment. Under the right circumstances it could become a family heirloom!
