The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of

Stephen Thorp has a passion for lovely cars and private plates and is a member of the www.numberplates.com number plates club under the name of 'Mercman'.

As a Mercedes fanatic, Stephen has just spent 18 months customising his lovely CLK220 with a full chrome pack.

“I also have a Mercedes watch, clock and bracelet,” he says. “My daughter bought me a Mercedes teddy bear, so I set about finding someone to knit me the same jumper as the Teddy. I found a little old lady of 89 and she knitted the jumper whilst her husband, 91, embroidered the Mercedes logo. They're both now in therapy!”

As a self-employed decorator of 42 years, Stephen always dreamed of owning a lovely car with a private plate. So, when he got to the age of 55, he thought, 'go for it, you're a long time dead'.
“I know that my plate, V33 STV, is not fantastic, “ he concedes, “ but it is my pride and joy and I just want to show it to everybody of like-minded interest.”

“The ‘V’ is for Virgo,” Stephen explains. “Virgos are renowned for being perfectionists, that is me down to a tee. I drive my family crazy and sometimes drive myself mad.

“33 was my age when I started my company, Dreamstyle Decorating Services. - I always dreamed of starting my own business, lots of people dream of having a lovely decorated home, add to this a touch of style, hence Dreamstyle Decorating Services.”

Stephen also purchased ST03 BEC from Regtransfers for his daughter Rebecca in 2009 and is currently looking for V33 JUL or similar for his partner, Julie. He may also consider W11 LOW, or similar, for his grand-daughter, Willow.
