Number Plate FAQs
What is the significance of the first two letters in the new registration system?
The first two letters are being referred to as a 'Memory Tag' for easier police recognition. The idea is that they indicate the town and Vehicle Registration Office (VRO) of the registration mark. Naturally the marks that are issued at auction or by special release won't be restricted by the memory tag and may be assigned to any area.
