About the DVLAThe Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), is the agency responsible for maintaining the database of drivers and vehicles in Mainland Britain.
The DVLA, which is based in Swansea, is also the body responsible for issuing motor vehicle registrations and setting out regulations for personalised number plates and Cherished numberplates.
In Northern Ireland, DVLA equivalent functions are served by Driver and Vehicle Licensing Northern Ireland (DVLNI), who have responsibility for Irish number plates.
