That Big Private Number Plates Auction...
You may remember that I posted a while back about an Auction in the United Arab Emirates where a car registration number consisting of just the figure "5" sold for the equivalent of 3.5 million pounds.
Well, one of the chaps from the company that runs the auction very kindly sent us some photos of the proceedings, one of which appears below. As you'll see, it was a pretty impressive venue.
Another private number plates auction is scheduled for 16th June. The auction will be for charity, with proceeds going to special needs projects and victims of road accidents in the country. Among the numbers up for sale in this forthcoming auction are: 7 – 66 – 69 – 38 – 50 – 23 – 97 – 777 – 220 – 544 – 303 – 321 – 640 – 510 – 809 – 111 – 150 – 211 – 678 – 120 – 161 – 600 – 722 – 199 – 786 – 656 – 506 – 1000 – 2020 – 8333 – 7666 – 3888 – 5655 – 3033 – 9998 – 8999 – 4444 – 8500 – 7877 – 9111 – 23000 – 80008 – 83333 – 87777 – 78888 – 33333 – 50505 – 10111– 50555 – 96999 – 90000 and 10101.
Somehow, we think that, even with its limited flexibility, the UK's personalised number plates system allows for more interesting combinations than that, but there's no denying that the UAE auctions are certainly reflecting the worldwide growth of interest in number plates, and the consequent increase in their value.
