Top Gear to Go to America?

Bookmark and Share

We were surprised to read about talks between the BBC and American TV networks regarding the possible export of 'Top Gear' to the USA.

Although some British telly shows do seem to migrate successfully between audiences, it rarely happens without significant cultural dilution or 'dumbing down'. Bearing in mind the complete remake that was done for 'The Office' to make it acceptable to US broadcasters, one has to wonder what constraints will be put on Jeremy Clarkson, if he ends up presenting the American version of TG. He is, after all, sometimes regarded as a bit of a loose canon, and US broadcasters can be a cautious lot.

We hope the deal does come off and that TG continues to go from strength to strength. We have a soft spot for the show - particularly since former presenter Quentin Willson pointed out to the public that personal number plates are a great investment. In his own words, "better than money in the bank"!
