RT Auctions Terms & Conditions

  • Auctions run for 7, 10 or 14 days from commencement. Sellers specify a Starting Price and Reserve price, and are contractually bound to sell if the reserve price has been met. Registration Transfers cannot be held liable for any sales which complete with a low sale price where an insufficient reserve price has been specified.

  • When you register to the RT Auction site, £0.01 will be deducted using the Credit Card details you have submitted. This is to ensure that you have supplied valid means of paying for any listings or for any Auctions won. This also helps to ensure that only serious bids are entered. No other payments will be taken from your card unless you win an Auction at which point a deposit will be taken, or if you sell a registration, then the Selling Fees will be deducted. See below for more information on Fees.
  • By bidding on a registration, you are committed to buying the registration if you should win the auction. Bids may only be retractable in exceptional circumstances, for example when a Seller has misrepresented a registration or does not have any legal rights to the registration.
  • If you win an Auction, the greater of £100 or 10% will be taken from your credit card as a non-refundable part-payment. If this is greater than the actual cost of the registration, then full payment will be taken. You then have 7 days to pay before the registration would be placed back on the market, and the part-payment would be lost.
  • A Transfer Fee of £105 is payable on top of a winning Auction bid by the new Owner.
  • As part of entering a registration into an Auction, you confirm that the registration is transferable, i.e. that it is on valid Retention Certificate or on a vehicle which is fully taxed and tested. You must also have legal rights to the registration, and have previously submitted it for a valuation. If the certificate needs to be extended as part of the transfer process, then the seller may have to pay an extension fee.
  • Any successful bidder will be required to supply suitable vehicle documents for the registration to be assigned onto. The vehicle must be currently taxed and MOT'd (If over 3 years of age) and have a current V5C registration document. You cannot make a vehicle appear younger than it is by changing the registration mark. For example you cannot put an “R” prefix registration on a “P” prefix vehicle as it would make the vehicle appear younger. You can however put any prefix registration from “A” to “P” on a “P” prefix vehicle. The DVLA will assign the registration onto the vehicle and replacement documents will be forwarded by Registration Transfers.
  • RT Auctions may withdraw a registration from Auction at any time. This may happen if we discover that a registration has been misrepresented or the Seller does not have any legal rights to the registration.
  • Listing Fees

A fee will be charged upon listing a registration in the auctions. The higher value of the Starting Price and the Reserve will be used to calculate the fee as follows:

Lower Amount Higher Amount Listing Fee
    £0£0Free!
    £1£5,000£10 (+ VAT)
    £5,001£10,000£20 (+ VAT)
    £10,001£50,000£50 (+ VAT)
    £50,001£100,000£100 (+ VAT)
    £100,001£1,000,000£500 (+ VAT)

So for example, if both the Starting Price AND the Reserve are zero, then the listing fee will also be zero.

  • Selling Fees

If a registration is successfully sold at auction Regtransfers will make a deduction from any Sale Price achieved. This will be done at the point where the winning bidder completes full payment. The fees are as follows:

Lower Sale Amount Higher Sale Amount Flat Fee   Percentage Fee
    £0£1,000£10plus15%
    £1,001£5,000£5plus10%
    £5,001£10,000£0plus8%
    £10,001£1,000,000£0plus5%

  • VAT will often be payable on top of any bid price. However, this will be clearly displayed at each stage of the Auction.
  • Text Alerts (if selected) will be sent when you are outbid on an Auction, or when an Auction is ending soon and you are not currently the winning bidder. Text messages are charged at 25p per message.

  • The current registration location (where specified by the owner) will be displayed on the first bidding page. If the registration is currently on a certificate then the expiry date will also be shown. Please take note of this information as the certificate may need to be extended soon after winning an auction.
